HYDRANGEA 1.5: Voice Acting Update! Steam release soon! [9k Downloads!]
IT’S HERE! With the release of version 1.5, Hydrangea now has voice acting!!
It’s my first time having a game with voice acting! It’s like a dream come true. Thank you so much to everyone who has played the game and shared feedback. Hydrangea has been downloaded over 9 thousand times since its release in March. On to a thousand more!!
I will be sharing some art I was gifted of the twins during this year’s Artfight in this devlog. Please check out the original artists!
(Android release in a bit, I need to do extra testing.)

This update was only possible thanks to the kind folks at Very Berry Studios, who helped with casting, directed the recording sessions, and edited the lines.
- Yuu, the masculine twin, is voiced by David Finley.
- Yua, the feminine twin, is voiced by Liyah Pon.

Please make sure to check out the updated version, even if you’ve already played the game. David and Liyah have added an entire new layer of emotion and depth to the story. The tense, emotional, and bittersweet moments are now elevated to a degree that was not possible only with the text.
During the recording sessions, I got chills while listening to some of these lines, and even got a bit teary eyed. I can’t explain just how amazing the finished product is. Go download it, now!!
I do have one request, however. We’ve tested the game over and over, but I don’t doubt that a few lines still might have issues - there are about 200 of them. By that I mean, maybe Yuu’s voice plays when Yua is talking. Or the audio volume is drastically different from one line to another. Perhaps the game can’t find the audio file and gives you a crash report.
Please let me know. I’ll fix it ASAP.

Update 1.5 also includes the following changes:
- Various typo fixes
- Music and sound volume has been adjusted, in order to allow the voices to pop out
- Mac and Android players can access the secret text files. Some lines during key moments in the game are now bolded hyperlinks that will send you to my site, where I have hosted the text files for viewing. Hover over the text and click it.
And last, but not least…
Hydrangea will be released for free on Steam soon! I’m just waiting for Valve to review the voice acting build. I’m aiming to have it out later this year.
I was only able to pay for the Steam submission fee thanks to donations to my Ko-fi and purchases here on itch.io. I hope that the Steam release will allow the game to reach a wider audience.

Great game! I've noticed with the voice acting that more often than not, the twins don't speak their lines. Or they will just say "Yes" or "Listen" but not the rest of the sentence. Is this intended? The actors are great and have nice voices too btw.
Not all lines are voiced - this is partial voice acting! The yandere scenes, some important lines such as the beginning ones and some talks with the twin, as well the endings are voiced.
Edited to add: if we fully voiced the game it would be way over a thousand voice lines for each actor, which would be really cool but a bit too much for my first time lmao
Oh that makes sense! Thanks for clearing that up. Cheers!
